Northam to Take Over Cosmetology Classes After Richmond Public Schools Job Cuts

RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond Public Schools (RPS) has undergone a series of job cuts, potentially forcing the school district to go without cosmetology classes for the next semester. However, to keep the program alive, makeup enthusiast Gov. Ralph Northam has volunteered to pitch in and teach the cosmetology curriculum at select schools in the city.

Northam, who was an amateur cosmetologist during his college years, stated that he hopes to give back to the community by showing students the value of a strong foundation in cosmetology. Classes will cover the basics of the craft, including contouring, highlighting, and his personal favorite, applying charcoal face masks.

Northam addressed reporters during a press conference on the city’s school system, accompanied by his wife, Pam.

“As a doctor, I know that skin care is just as important as any other kind of healthcare,” Northam explained, reminiscing about his youthful experiences in makeup application. “Back when I was in medical school, my friends and I would always wear charcoal face masks in the evening to protect against dryness and wrinkles. In fact, I believe that’s where the phrase ‘black don’t cra…’ oh, I apologize, my wife is telling me to stop for some reason.”

Despite his recent controversies, Northam says he is ready to get back into the public eye by helping out our local school system in a meaningful way.

“I think this is a great opportunity to show people another side of myself, and with the recent cutbacks, they need all the help they can get,” Northam continued. “I also heard a couple theater departments actually needed some help with their productions of ‘Othello’ and ‘The Jazz Singer,’ and, to be honest, I think I’m just the guy for the job … hold on, my wife is shaking her head again.”
